Morphometrics
Through the partnership between the Bioeconomy Science Institute and Seaweave, the Seaweave platform brings research‑grade morphometrics and image analysis into an accessible, practical toolset for scientists, technicians and operators in real‑world environments. BSI morphology science and Seaweave’s computer vision pipelines, the platform can automatically locate landmarks and body parts, extract shape and size features, and then measure, count or otherwise analyse biological structures across diverse species, sample types and imaging conditions.
Seaweave’s camera technology and Flow software handle the heavy lifting from capture to insight: cameras above and below the surface, in labs and on lines feed images into edge devices that pre‑screen and compress data before syncing to cloud storage. Flow then manages labelling, versioned model runs and result visualisation, so BSI and partner teams can run experiments, compare methods and push improved morphometric models into production without rebuilding the plumbing each time.
This morphometrics capability underpins use cases such as benchtop measurements for multiple species, biometric identification, larval counting, biofouling assessment, cell nuclei counting, underwater feature detection, fillet quality assessment on processing lines and x‑ray segmentation. The same pipelines can run on archived research datasets, live farm video or factory cameras, giving a common way to turn images into clean, structured measurements that other systems can query and build on.
As the Seaweave–BSI partnership grows, these morphometrics‑driven insights are being woven into a wider family of solutions on the Seaweave platform, connecting morphology science with large‑scale sensing, information systems and decision support. Results from morphometric models flow into dashboards, APIs and digital twins alongside RFID, GPS and environmental data, and “beyond morphometrics” capabilities such as behaviour metrics and condition scoring are described in a dedicated section.
