Seaweave Limited is a marine technology company specialising in advanced machine vision, smart sensing and artificial intelligence for aquaculture and fisheries monitoring. We develop AI enabled camera systems, integrated sensor platforms and cloud connected analytics that deliver real time environmental, production and asset data in demanding coastal conditions.
Our rugged edge AI cameras, GPS and RFID based tracking tools and FLOW dashboards are already in use on vessels and farms to support automated event detection, stock assessment, environmental anomaly detection and end to end traceability across the water‑to‑harvest chain.
Through this work we help producers, regulators and partners move towards more data driven, transparent and sustainable marine operations.
Seaweave is part of The Snap Group, a family of companies that combine global project delivery experience, robust engineering and advanced manufacturing with agile, field‑centred innovation.
Seaweave is led by founder and CEO Chris Rodley, a New Zealand technology entrepreneur with a background in AI enabled camera systems, sensors and software for marine and aquaculture applications. Chris has worked at the intersection of environmental monitoring and advanced analytics for many years, with projects recognised through national awards and industry partnerships in the blue economy.
Around this we have built a small, specialist team with skills in machine vision, edge based artificial intelligence, embedded systems, sensor integration and cloud software. Our engineers and scientists spend time on farms and vessels as well as in the lab, working directly with growers, regulators and research partners to design, test and refine systems in real operating conditions.
Snap Group traces its roots back to 2007, when Snap Information Technologies began building data and software solutions for complex, real‑world operations. Over time, the group expanded from pure software into rugged electronics and marine monitoring, responding to growing demand for reliable technology in harsh environments.
In 2020 the Snap Group umbrella was created to bring these activities together and to invest in a dedicated portfolio of monitoring, tracking and analytics businesses. Teem Fish, a pioneer in electronic monitoring for commercial fisheries, joined the group, adding deep experience in compliance‑grade video and sensor systems at sea. In the following years SnapCore was established as the group’s manufacturing, software and AI hub, Pinpoint Earth was formed to focus on vessel and asset tracking, and Seaweave was created to specialise in aquaculture imaging, sensors and data. Today the group spans monitoring, tracking, manufacturing and aquaculture technology, working together to deliver data‑driven tools for the blue economy.
Seaweave was established in 2024 in Nelson, New Zealand, to focus the group’s capabilities on the specific challenges of aquaculture, wild fisheries and marine farming more broadly. Drawing on Snap Group’s experience in marine‑grade hardware, software and AI, Seaweave set out to build integrated camera, sensor and data platforms that could operate reliably in demanding coastal conditions.
From its first pilots, Seaweave has worked closely with farmers, fishers, processors and science partners to turn sensor and video data into practical digital twins of marine operations, covering farms, vessels and factories. The business has grown as part of a wider Snap Group ecosystem that includes Teem Fish for fisheries monitoring, Pinpoint Earth for tracking and geospatial intelligence, and SnapCore for product design and manufacturing. Together, these foundations give Seaweave the depth to move quickly from prototype to deployment, while staying grounded in real‑world seafood sector needs from water to market.
